What a week! I am very fortunate to have a few wonderful men in my life. My Darling, my Dad, my Father-in-law, and Grandad. Grandad is actually my Darlings Maternal Grandfather, however, is also regularly called my 'other' boyfriend. He really is the most divine, loving, thoughtful man. Grandad and I are very close. It is not uncommon for me to pick up the phone to hear Grandad on the other end, just wanting a friendly voice to share his sadness. Grandad lost his 'girlfriend' of nearly sixty years, in 2003, and has been longing for Grandma ever since. They had a long and happy marriage. Grandad said it was because he always treated Grandma the way he did when they were 16.
Last Sunday morning Grandad had a fall and wasn't found for quite a few hours. We received a phone call about 5pm to say Grandad had been taken to the hospital and was not well. After a few more phone calls we left for Sydney at 2.30am Monday morning. Grandad has pneumonia and had a major stroke, which has left him unable to move his left side, he has very limited speech and is now being tube fed. He sleeps most of the time, then has the occassional moment of clarity.
Grandad has always been a vibrant, charming, active man. Even at the ripe old age of 92, he was still riding his exercise bike for 45klms per day. He is amazing.
This week has been a very emotional one. I thought I would share our Grandads' story with you in the hope that you will join me in praying for a peaceful outcome for a beautiful man.
Remember to be kinder than necessary, as we are all fighting some kind of battle. Kim x x x

Hugs & prayers for you & your Grandad. My mother always called my Dad her 'boyfriend' & they were married for 63 years. Your Grandad is a lucky man to have those who love him close by his side. Best wishes.

Ohhh Kim I had tears reading this..I lost my grand-dad 15 years ago at the age of 70 and it was such a shock. I just never ever thought he would have a stroke and not be with me...he was a best buddy and I spent a lot of school holidays at the beach with him, fishing, crabbing. I am feeling your pain...biggest hugs
