A great big thank you hug to all the beautiful angels who sent loving gifts and kind words my way over the past month.
For those of you who haven't heard, and for those of you that know just a little, this is the event that had me off the air for a bit of time.
Mum and I, along with my gorgeous 4yo Bear, were off to town. Funny though, there was a nagging voice inside saying 'don't go, you have plenty to do here'. As I do from time to time, I just ignored that little voice. Mum and I had an appointment in Armidale, so off we went in the rain.
Our day out together had become a regular event every few weeks. My Mum has some major health issues and I take her to a wonderful Muscle Neurology Therapist who is really helping Mum regain a bit of quality back into her life. Bear looks forward to having a special lunch in the park and playing on the equipment. So, except for the rain, it was a pretty normal day.
We were travelling on a road we had travelled on many times. There is however, a particular spot where water streams across the road when it rain, running down from two separate driveways. This is a country road, with properties lining it. Somewhat different from a busy city road. Anyway, on this particular bend, I had slowed down, but this day the water was running quite strongly and took the back tyres out, and I lost grip of the road. The vehicle slid across the road, down the gully and began to roll, and roll, and roll. My Mum was tossed around like a lifeless rag doll, and i thought the worst had happened. Then I looked in the back to see my little Bear. NO BEAR!! and no noise. Not a sound. Words cannot describe that moment.
The first man to stop found Bear some minutes later about 30 metres away, in a creek, conscious by this time. It became very obvious Bear had broken his Femur, the upper bone in his thigh. Six weeks in hospital in traction. Oh my.
Mum is fine. A couple of broken ribs and severe soft tissue damage to her face and head. Could have been so much worse. And me, well, I am great. My head has finally filtering all that has happened, and things are now wonderful. I do not remember much of the last 5 weeks, but each day is great.
We were very very fortunate. We definitely had the angels looking after us. My Darling and I were taking turns spending each night at the hospital, an hour away from home. (It put a very big strain on all my plans for Christmas Club stitching and everything else.) Bear was permitted home a couple of weeks early. He still had his huge splint on, and needed to be carried everywhere. As I said we are all very fortunate, and grateful. Life really is precious.
A huge thank you to the hospital staff of Armidale Hospital. You are amazing!!!
So, once again, thank you to all the wonderful souls who have sent prayers and hugs in one form or another. Words cannot explain the tears of joy you have brought to my heart. Thank you.

Hi Kim
I am SO glad to hear you are all right, what a frightening experience, but obviously your guardian angel was nearby.
I have just had a peaceful Christmas, counting my blessings, my lovely husband, dear mum (81 years old) beautiful cat (19 years old) and feeling very proud of my son who has just been accepted into WAAPA (the West Aust. Academy of Performing Arts) for 3 year acting course! Hugh Jackman went there so who knows!!! It means I'll be poor for a bit longer helping to support him, but what are parents for!
I've loved the Christmas Club this year! All the best for 2009.

what a great give away, I love the pattern. I have a tomcat, his name is Linus and his favorite thing at night is, to wait on my bed, and when I snuggle up under the covers, he will come and join me, yes UNDER the covers, not for long, I think because of the lack of oxygen and it get's too warm, but he does it and it's wonderful to get warmed up by this breathing, purring pillow. I also have a Labrador Lady, her name is Nina and she is a crazy bouncing ball, with the sweetest attitude ever, she is totally in love with my one year old son, and never leaves his side, sometimes I think she is more his mom than I am.

Forgot to comment about the pets.
Last week we lost our Sparky (Cockatiel) succumbed to some illness we suspect. Best thing about this gregarious little fella was every morning when I took the cover off his cage he would look at me and 'woof whistle' and say "oh pretty, pretty, pretty". No matter that I had just got out of bed, the comment was always positive. Our Bichon, Andre' really misses him, he keeps barking at the empty space where the cage was!

What a very generous giveaway! I'd love to be in the draw for it.
About a year after we were married, having professed my disdain for anything furry coming into my home, my husband suggested we take a Sunday afternoon drive to look at some kittens advertised in the paper. I told him I didn't want anything furry and I really meant that. He said we could just look at them...kittens are so cute! So off we went. He had a box in the back seat of the car and, surprise surprise, the exact amount of cash one kitten would cost!
Sandy was MY cat from day one! She loved me and we were constant companions until her last day at the ripe old age of 17! There is a picture of her on my website at the bottom of today's post in fact. She could be bad sometimes, as you can read there, but I still loved her!

Glad to hear everything turned out well for you & your family. I was living in central Qld & was to move back to the south east of Qld. I have 2 beautiful Siamese that i thought i'd have to leave behind. Time was getting away & i'd had no takers when out of the blue a cat lover rang me & offered to drive them the 8 hour trip to Ipswich on her way to Brisbane. She went out of her way to do it & wouldn't take a cent of money for petrol. It made my move back here so much easier knowing i would hve my cats.

It hardly ever snows in New Orleans--but it did this December! Bruiser (our pet yorkie) has never seen snow...so he went bouncing outside, took 6 steps into the white stuff, halted in his tracks and backed out slowly on the 6 steps he made in! The snow stayed for about a day!

hi, I wish you a very happy new year, and so do our two cats, and 15 chickens!
our youngest cat was rescued by DH when the cat was about 3 weeks old and her mother died. we went to the vet and he told us it would be difficult to raise her, as she was so little. but a few years later she is still our little cat called 'Witse', very playful.

Merry Merry Christmas from California. I hope everyone had as peaceful a holiday as I filled with family times and good memories. This was my puppies first Christmas and she love her quilt made just for her! I have to share that is was great fun to make a quilt for the dog. She so appreciates the warmth of it and it is funny to see the horror of my mom in law when she saw the dog getting a homemade gift. she got a vacumn cleaner. LOL> Happy New year to all. Patty

So grateful you are all safe and doing well after such an awful experience. And especially that you were all home for the holidays. When I was a little girl I had a pet lizard. Now I am in my 50's, I am once again smitten by a lizard named Trex. Most people are a little shocked at my choice of a pet, but he really is a sweet little guy and a good companion for me.

Stopping by to say hi. I'm glad everything is going well now. We have never had a real pet. My daughter and her boyfriend bought a fish one year, just before they broke up. Needless to say, I was the one who took care of Snowflake. Towards the end of his life span, he seemed to have trouble digesting his food, so I ended up "spoon feeding" him peas from the freezer. He lasted almost a full year after that, but he finally perished in her sophomore year at college. What we don't do for our kids!

So glad all turned out well for you. You were lucky. Our beloved pet an English bulldog last summer was hit by a car by one of our aides that cares for my son. She ran in front of the car. we think maybe a chipmonk ran out from under the car. Luckily only her leg was broken but it could have been much worse if I had not stopped the driver who had not seen her. The driver was so upset as she loved that dog so much but she is fine now and not a limp. Linda Gerig in USA in michigan

So glad you are all safe. I remember those country roads from when I lived in Lakes Entrance before they built up the Princes Highway from Bairnsdale. I was doing a BA externally from Churchill (out of boredom I hate to admit) but was coming home from an exam and was driving slowly across where the creek was rushing across the road. All of a sudden I found myself heading sideways......fortunately I found traction somehow but many a day we had to drive home via Bruthen to miss the floods. Oh for that rain here now.
I have two black and white cats that are meant to live next door, but since there are three dogs there they somewhat prefer my place. I thought they had been put in a cattery as the folks are away for a week, so carried my inside Moggie out to get some grass......and lo and behold the more white of the black and white emerges from a bush. Not even a quiver from Miss Moggie in my arms..so we continued to find grass. I was in my nightie and almost dropped her (over 6kg of her) getting the grass. She bravely coped with that indignity but as we came around to the door from which we had exited....lo and behold out races our little friend. Miss Moggie gave a strangled squwark and I gave a more vocal one. Going inside my house is beyond the bounds of cat neighbourliness. We got in....were soothed with grass in our glass and I gave thanks for my so well socialized and placed madam.
I would love to order an H & P pin if you still have some for sale.

I'm so glad you and your family are recovering - what a terrible experience. We're fairly pet free right now - just keeping company with three bantams. Low care, good company, and give us cute little eggs - what more could we want!

Hi Kim,
I was sent to your 'draw' via Lynette's blog.
I share my home with 2 cats, 1 very small dog and 2 guinea pigs; all of whom get along splendidly, although the black cat rules!
My dog is a very old chihuahua/pom cross, with very few teeth. He does love a bone though and then lovingly buries them in the garden. He uses his nose as a 'scoop' to push the dirt over the bone, then uses the tip of his nose to tap the dirt into place.. Amazing to watch; he's a very tidy boy. And yes, he does go back and dig them out occasionally.
All the best for the new year!

Kim,
Sorry to hear about your accident, but happy to hear everyone is ok.
I have a Border Collie, my constant companion and a Maine coon that I rescued from the pound. This month we added my son's kitty, since he moved and they didn't allow pets. Our house is always in an uproar since they all have spirited and fun personalities and love finding ways to get into trouble.

Hi,
I have three cats. One of them is always trying to help me when I do my sewing. She sits on the table and picks pins out of my pincushion, runs away and drop all over the place. To keep her from doing that when I'm not sewing I've had to make a box for my pincushion.

Merry Christmas and Happy New Year. So glad your allright. It is great to know that the angels take such good care of everyone. My grandma had a little black pom who just used to love it when i came over. She would tell Buttons Kim is coming and the dog would wait all day by the door for me. When I came over buttons would sit by my feet all afternoon. Grandma always said at least I had one friend. :) Bless her heart.

Hi Kim,
oh, I'm so glad that you all are getting better - my thoughts are still with you & I hope this episode will soon be a distant memory. I do hope that your Christmas has been wonderful - filled with laughter from your loved ones, beautiful gifts {sometimes the former is the best gift of all!} and good (and plenty of) food. I deeply hope the next year will be a good year without any scary & dangeous accidents but many happy future memories!
Once upon a time - ehem, well years ago - I learned to walk with the help of my aunt's dog, Waldi. He was the most patient, caring dog I ever met (or at least I'm told). I remember me clinging on his neck, feeling his soft fur. I think it's one of my first memories ;o).
Well, I think that was the start of my career as an animal lover...

Thank Heavans for your gardian angels. You all were very lucky.
I live with 3 indoor kitties and 1 stray who refuses to live inside -
The first time we tried to bring him inside- he made a dash for the window over the kitchen sink- actually climbing the curtains to try and get out. They all are constant clowns and keep us all amused.

I am so glad to hear that you guys are on the mend!!
My very best wishes for a good recovery for your dear son.
When I was very sick 2 years ago my beloved grand-cat did not leave my side for a couple of weeks. She is usually more on the shy side.
She gave me so much comfort and we have a special bond since then!
I hope your Christmas celebration has been nice and I wish a Very Very Happy New Year for you and your family!

Kim, hello there,
I've never visited your blog before but followed the silvery trail from Lynette's. I'm so sorry to read your message about the accident but, thankfully the guardian angels were with you all. Times like these make us realise just how inconsequential so many of our day to day worries are. It's people that matter, not things and I'm glad to see that everyone is recovering well.
Christmas has been a true blessing for us this year. MIL and SIL were able, once again to travel the 250 miles down to spend Christmas with us. I say blessed because this was MIL's 100th Christmas. She still lives on her own with SIL about 20 minutes away and apart from badly deteriorating eyesight and the fact that she is now getting a little tired and frail, she is fine. My husband drove up to fetch them down on Tuesday and they will stay till New Year. MIL's one big regret was that she didn't feel able to make our Christmas cake this year.....haha! She has made one for us every year since we married in 1976. I look forward to taking part in your draw and popping in a bit more often :>)
Warm wishes, Angela

Kim,
sometimes it seems someone is watching over us. Last year at christmas we were in a really nasty car accident, I had my six week old baby in the car, we slid on snow on the Highway and slid all the way to the other side, luckily there was no car in the other lane, we were soo lucky. The car was broke, but who cares about that, when three adults and a baby didn't even have a scratch?
You wanted to hear a story about a special pet? I have two! My tomcat Linus is the funniest little guy ever, he is five years now and he always puts a smile on my face. And my labrador Nina, she is a very special girl, she is usual a really well behaved dog, but sometimes, I call it a brain fart, something hits her and I come home and my house is trashed. She knows exactly that she did something wrong and is usually hiding.. but we love her very much!

Hi Kim
So glad everyone is recovering well.
We had 2 pesian cats growing up, one went for a drive with the telstra technician after he climbed into the guys van, we found out when the tech went back to the neighbours asking was it their cat lol. The same cat spent 3 days locked in the other neighbours wood shed, his brother spent those 3 days on top of the shed refusing to come down we found him as his white fur was poking out the side of the fence and when we pulled it he cried.
These days we have a very naughty oriental who will sleep in any sink he can find and adores shopping bags.

Dear Kim, I'm very glad to hear that you all are doing well again! I wish you and your family a happy New Year 2009!
My pet story is not very spectacular. We have a cat, Lucy. She came to us at the age of 6 weeks, full of fleas and in a very bad condition. Today she is 11 years old and a friendly and beloved member of our family. Hopefully she will have a very long cat live!
Greetings from Germany,

So glad to hear you are okay after your very scary experience. Hope you had a nice Christmas.
I have two pets ... an 11 year old golden retriever called Molly and a 4 year old ginger and white cat called Oliver Henry. Molly thinks she is Olly's mother! When he was a kitten she developed milk which Olly was very willing to drink while purring very loudly ... a very funny sight.
I don't know if it's because he's always had Molly around to protect him but Olly is very sooky and scared of strangers ... animal and human. If another cat dares to venture into our yard, Molly woofs loudly and chases them to the fence .. no-one is going to hurt her Oliver!
All the best for the New Year.

Dear Kim,
I'm so very happy to hear the angels were watching over you! I've been keeping you in my prayers.
My cat came out from behind the washing machine with what I thought was a big dust bunny.....NOT. It was a live mouse that she and my other cat decided was a wonderful toy....ewwwwww

What a terrible fright you had with that accident and I'm glad all recovered from it as it could have been much worse, as you know. I found your blog from Lynnette's blog. I'd love to be in the drawing. The story that comes to mind is how our pet (a small, mixed-breed dog) enjoys helping everyone unwrap gifts on Christmas morning. He is quite funny....grabbing and edge of the paper, holding the package down with his paw...and tearing away. He gets very carried away with this and very excited about doing it. (I guess he likes the sound of the paper ripping...although he never tears paper up at any other time during the year...pretty funny!)

Glad everyone is ok and Bear is on the way to good health. My favorite animal story...
I saw some orphaned kittens in an old barn while on my daily walk one day. I started carrying food & water to them everyday, and it took quite awhile before they would let me get near them. This went on for several months. This barn was about 3 miles from my home. One day it was snowing and I couldn't take food to them. I was so worried about them. I was cooking dinner that evening and heard something on my back porch. Believe it or not,it was my favorite orphaned kitty! To this day I don't know how in the world he found my house. I brought him inside and from that day forward Simon lived with us. He's passed on now, but I've never had another kitty that was as special as he was. Happy New Year!

I'm glad to hear that everything is turning to be all right. Hopefully, you and your family are having a great Christmas time!
The pet story: For eleven years we had one cat, Hobbes. Last year about this time we were at friends. They were having two kittens, Maine Coons. They were so gorgeous and gentle, hardly to believe for kittens. Not much later we had one ourselves, a red male cat (who would ever think such a thing); his name is Merlot, but he does not mind. Believe it or not, he is just great with such a nice character. He really is a gentle giant. Therefore we decided that next year, at least one other kitten from the same breeder will be living in our house, but probably two. Although Merlot is helping me out with everything, it all takes more time. His favorite job is doing the quilt inspection, also known as sleeping. Will I be able to quilt anything with having three of such gentle giants? I'm looking forward to find the answer.

A very happy Christmas to you, Kim. Hope all is well with you, after reading the comments from above. My special pet is my dog Bibi (Barking Beauty). She helped me out of my depression when she came into our home 8 years ago. She made me go out and take nice long walks. And with a dog, people talk to you more easily. There is always conversation.
May your holidays be filled with joy and laughter!

Hi Kim,
I am so glad to hear that you are all recovering so well. I wish you and your family a very Happy Xmas.
I have 2 cats, 10year old sisters Navi and Ruto (my sons were into playing ZELDA). Ruto has ahole in the roof of her mouth so far back that the vet did not spot it straight away. She just did not grow as well as her sister. By the time she arrived at my house, I was advised to maybe put her down. I thought I'll give her a chance. She learnt how to eat and now is going strong.
Merry Xmas

Kim, Bec mentioned your accident on her blog and we prayed for you - I'm so glad Bear is recovering and you and your mum are ok.
Blessings on your family this beautiful Christmas!
A pet story, hmmm....ew, this is awful BUT you asked: My kids were caring for a baby mouse a neighbour had found. It was winter and it was cool so we put it in a secure hay lined container atop the water heater in the laundry. For a few days we fed it milk from an eyedropper and it seemed to be thriving. We named him Timothy. One morning we went to check on him and discovered the water heater's temperature had risen and poor little Tim was cooked through in his hay bed. Told you it was awful. We have dogs now and we never leave them unattended on top of the water heater. ;-)

What an incredible story about your accident. That must have been terrifying. You have so much to be grateful for this Christmas. I guess we all do if we take time to count our blessings. My favorite pet story is about my boxer named Mocha. She is the perfect dog. She is so tuned in to her people that when my diabetic husband's blood sugar drops during the night, she wakes him up! She is an amazingly gentle, loving dog and now we can add life-saver to her list of wonderful qualities. We got her from a rescue group and she had been surrendered twice before when we got her and we have never been able to figure out why. I guess she was waiting for us to find her. Merry Christmas to you and yours!

A pet story. I have a lot of stories about my cats, but the newest one is from yesterday when my Frida cat is watching (more correct guarding) the christmas gifts. She is so interested in all the packages on the table and under the tree. Think she knows there is one for her too under the tree.
Merry Christmas to you and your family. Enjoy!!

Kim
someone is looking after you... glad to hear you are all OK..
I own australia's friendliest beagle (aka Bailey the Wonderdoggie) and the snobbies cat (evil puss puss also known as Cosmopolitan Bernard the B@$tard cat)..
I have had a very hard 12 months and without the support of my family and the pets, I dont know what I'd of done!
Merry Christmas to you and your family and a safe new year (and start listening to the voice in your head, its usually right I find!)

Well darn I think my first comment went into cyber space. Happy Christmas to you and your family. I hope your day is filled with joy unmeasureable and a ton of love and laughter.
I'm so pleased to hear that things are returning to your "normal".
Hmm pet story, I can't think of one that wouldn't make you cry, but I can say I've always had a dog to love on.
Hoping your New Year will be filled with wonderful and exciting new adventures for you and your family and business.
